Junior Summer to Early Senior Fall: Senior Portrait Session
If you ask me when the ideal time is for senior portraits, my answer is almost always:
The summer before senior year through early fall.
This is your senior's main portrait session. It's the session where we capture their personality, interests, style, hobbies, and everything that makes them unique right now. These sessions typically include multiple outfits, different locations, and plenty of variety.
Scheduling early has several advantages:
- Photos are ready for graduation announcements and senior year celebrations.
- You have more flexibility if weather causes a reschedule.
- Fall weather is typically comfortable and beautiful.
- It removes one more thing from an already busy spring semester.
Many of my seniors choose 2–3 outfits, including a casual look, something dressier, and often an outfit that reflects their personality or future plans.
Fall vs. Spring Senior Photos
Both seasons photograph beautifully, but they create different experiences.
Fall Senior Sessions
- Beautiful fall color
- Comfortable temperatures
- More schedule flexibility
- Less pressure during senior year activities
Spring Senior Sessions
- Fresh greenery and blooming flowers
- Natural opportunity to include cap and gown photos
- Captures the excitement of graduation season
- Often requires a little more flexibility due to busy schedules
Neither option is wrong. The best season is the one that works for your family.
